MEDIA REVIEWS

Keyboard Magazine:

“We’ve all heard stereotypes about “new age” music.  Accepting those preconceptions would mean that you’d never hear gems such as Douglas King’s delightful Deceptively Simple Melodies Series.  Though arrangements remain sparse and unhurried, Douglas paints his musical watercolors with shimmering synth textures that bring to mind Joe Zawinul in sound design, harmonic landscape, and skillful performance. Meditative but never sleepy or overly simplistic, these tracks make clear another, more accurate truth: Douglas has chops for miles and has created some truly engaging music for your more chilled-out moments. His conscience matches his music, too — King donates profits from CD sales and appearances to HospiceCare, an end-of-life care organization in his native Wisconsin.”

-- Michael Gallant, Executive Editor, Keyboard Magazine

Wisconsin Trails Magazine:

“Relax with the soothing acoustic keyboard songs of artist douglas king.  The musician combines elements of jazz, classical, eastern and native American to create mellow melodies that are worth a listen.”

-- Wisconsin Trails Magazine Book and Music Editors

The Shepherd Express:

“Every now and again, a recording artist knows exactly how to describe his or her music. Milwaukee's Douglas King calls his gentle way with a piano "new age classical ambient acoustic keyboard music."  King delivers motifs with just enough embellishment to give his miniature melodies a heft that might otherwise escape them by combining King's pianistic imagination with his audience's need for pleasant, unobtrusive background sounds for their lives.”

-- Jamie Lee Rake, Music Reviewer, The Shepherd Express Milwaukee.

WTMJ TV - Milwaukee Television

“This guy is just amazing.  I had no idea we were going to hear this on our television show today.   I predict you are going to be listening to him again very soon.”

--Gretchen Colnick, WTMJ-TV Television

The Wisconsin Film Festival

-- “Douglas King crafts music as Chopin did with his short little Preludes, which are definitely deceptively simple melodies!  People have been humming those for hundreds of years.”  “Some of these could be the next American Film Institute’s 100 best film soundtracks ever made.  They are like movie themes for films that have not been made yet.”

--Wisconsin Film Festival Box Office Staff

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

“Keyboard artist Douglas King wowed an audience of over a thousand people with a stunning concert of jazz married to classical themes to win the annual performance competition at the University Of Wisconsin – Milwaukee for the second year in a row.”

-- The Milwaukee Journal
